All of the major browsers function properly with Xanadoo. Can I use other ISPs (such as AOL) with Xanadoo?Yes. Customers can access AOL and other ISP portals through the Internet. However, Xanadoo will not offer phone support for AOL, MSN, or any other provider's software. Will any ports or Internet sites be blocked? We generally block port 25, unless a customer has a static IP address. This is to prevent users from sending spam email. Additionally, Xanadoo reserves the right to block any ports that it deems necessary to ensure network performance. An example would be a virus that spreads itself via a non-standard TCP/IP port. ![]() TechnologyDo I have to install any software? Not with the Zero-Install Desktop Modem. It's instant plug-n-play set-up that only takes a few minutes. With our Internet-On-The-Go Laptop Card (available only in Springfield), there are simple drivers that need to be installed from the CD provided. The only other software needed is a Web browser and a standard email package, which you probably already have on your computer. We suggest Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, but any standard software packages will work. Is Xanadoo a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) or a fixed IP (Internet Protocol) address? Our Residential plans are provided through DHCP. Our Small Business plans are provided through a fixed IP. You may order a static IP address for an additional monthly fee of $4.99 for each modem. (This cost is not covered by Clarendon Foundation.) What will the limits be, if any, for the size and speed of FTP downloads? As with any Internet connection, the limitations will vary depending upon the content being downloaded as well as where the content is being downloaded from. Xanadoo cannot be responsible for networks outside of its own. What is the latency of the connection?Latency will typically be less than 90 milliseconds. These times may vary depending on distance to the transmitting tower and environmental conditions. |
